Calpe is the town where I live myself, so when I talk about it, it always comes from personal experience. It is one of those places that slowly grows on you. At first you notice the sunshine, the sea and the famous rock rising from the water. But after living here for a while, you start appreciating the everyday moments: morning walks by the beach, the small local shops, the friendly people who greet you when you pass by.
When you arrive in Calpe, the first thing that captures your attention is the impressive Peñón de Ifach. This huge limestone rock rises more than 330 meters above the Mediterranean and has become the natural symbol of the town. It is a protected natural park and many visitors climb to the top to enjoy the incredible views across the Costa Blanca coastline. Even if you see it every day, it still feels special when the light changes around it during sunrise or sunset.
Calpe originally began as a small fishing village, and you can still feel that history around the harbour area. In the afternoon the fishing boats return with their catch, and nearby restaurants prepare fresh seafood for the evening. Despite growing into an international town, Calpe has kept its relaxed Spanish character, which is something many residents truly appreciate.
Life here naturally revolves around the sea. The town is home to two large sandy beaches, Playa Arenal-Bol and Playa de la Fossa. But beyond the photos, the old town has something truly charming. Narrow streets, traditional houses, quiet little squares and small restaurants create a very authentic Mediterranean atmosphere.
Another fun way to explore Calpe is the small tourist train that drives around the town. It passes through the beaches, the harbour and several viewpoints, making it a relaxing way to discover the area. Visitors often enjoy this because it allows them to see different parts of Calpe in a short time. Even pet owners like it because depending on the size, dogs are usually welcome on the train.
